II. What is Database?
Database is a warehouse or house for storing, processing, and securing the data. The examples below show the uses of databases that you commonly encounter:
- Member accounts in websites
- Credit card information in an ATM machine
- Documents that can be searched in your computer.
- The result of what you searched from Google web site
- Book information in a library system
- Time table in the air port and so forth
III. How to Create Database file
We have several ways to create a database file. However, in this tutorial, we select three ways to introduce you.The three ways are:
- How to create Desktop Database
- How to create Web Database
- And how to create a Template Database
Blank Database- A database that is created by your own design and requirements.
Web Database- A database that allows you to publish it on the internet to share the data.
Template Database- A sample database that you can choose from Access 2010 program if your project is similar or the same to this template.
III.
1. How to Create a Database File by using Blank Database
To create a blank database file, you have to do the following:
Office Button --> Microsoft Office -->Microsoft Office Access 2010
File Name: Enter a file name for your database.
Folder Icon(
): Browse a location to store your database.
Create: Create a new database.
- Write database's name in the File Name box
- Click Folder if you want to store your database beside My documents folder
- Click Create
A blank database was created with a new table opens in datasheet view.

2. How to Create a Database File by Web Database
To create a web database file, you do the similar way as shown above:
--> Start --> All Programs --> Microsoft Office --> Microsoft Office Access 2010 --> Click Blank Web Database
- Write database's name in the File Name box
- Click Folder if you want to store your database beside My documents folder
- Click Create
A blank web database was created with a new table opens in datasheet view.
III.
3. How to Create a Database File by using Template Database
To create a template database file, you do the similar way as shown above:
--> Start --> All Programs --> Microsoft Office --> Microsoft Office Access 2010
--> Click Sample Templates --> Select any database template which you like
- Write database's name in the File Name box or use the provided name
- Click Folder if you want to store your database beside My documents folder
- Click Create
A template database was created with the provided objects(tables, queries, forms, reports...etc).
IV. How to Close Database file
In case you complete all your works in the database and you want to exit it. To do so, do the following:
- Click File tab
- Click Close Database below the Open
V. How to Open Existing Database File
If you want to open existing database file--Microsoft Access file which you created before, you have to follow the step below:
--> Open Ms. Access 2010 --> Click File --> Select the existing file that list below the Close Database
If you do not see your intended existing database display below the Close Database:
- Click
(Open)
- Open File Dialog box will load
- Select the drive which you store your created database
- Select any database file that you want to open
- Click Open Button
VI. How to Rename Database File
You can rename any database file that you named it before by practicing as the following:
- Find the location of database file stored
- Right-click database file you want to rename
- Click Rename
- Write a new name for database file and make sure database file extension(.accdb) unchanged
- Press Enter Key
VII. How to Delete Database File
You sometimes want to remove database file that you created because you do not need to use it any more or because this file is useless. You can delete it by following the steps below:
- Close database file you would like to delete
- Find the location of database file located in hard drive or other storage devices
- Right click on database file--> click Delete or Select database file --> Press Delete Key
VIII. How to Exit from Microsoft Access 2010
To exit from Microsoft Access 2010, you do the same way you exit Access 2007:
-Click Close button or Press Alt+F4 or Click File -->Exit
